The welcoming spirit of Columbus Cocktail & Wine Bar it mainly have the origin on a young and friendly team of professionals specialized in tourisms and hotels services.
From the Manager, the bartender, as the waiters, the personalities are varied and each one oh them gives to the Columbus Bar atmosphere, something special.
MIGUEL GIÃO - “THE ADMIRAL”
Miguel Giao is the "Captain" of the Columbus Bar, inaugurated the project in 2004, after finishing his training at the Hospitality and Tourism School of Algarve. Borned in Faro, father of three children, likes good things in life, such as travels, restaurants, fine wines and share moments with your family and friends.
He´d like to Columbus would be an extension of this hismanners and way of being, offering unique moments to each of its clients. It's hard for him to choose a favorite cocktail, stating that "The best cocktail is the one who drinks among friends ...".
Miguel´s Columbus Moment was the year of the opening, where everything was a challenge, and even today he still feel like you're always learning and willing to improve to find the perfect time to each client.
RICARDO GIÃO - “THE EXPLORER”
Always with a smile his face and shy look, Ricardo was born in Faro, have blissful life in the company of his group of "good little friends".
Ricardo Gião is the younger brother with the responsibility for the management of Columbus during the day hours period. With its enrollment frozen in Hotel Management Course at the University of Algarve, quickly embraced the project from the start, left his studies behind and embarked on this trip. It is dedicated as just, discreet and calm. Today considers all his colleagues true friends and loves to share with them.
His favorite drink is Red Wine, but it can not be only one and if possible old. The Ricardo´s Columbus Moment is "whenever a client praises a drink and share it on the social networks."
NUNO LEITÃO - “THE PATIENT”
Borned in Sintra and giving their first strokes in Columbus while finalizing the Hotel Management Course at the University of Algarve, returns to the origins past four years in London. He says that money is not everything and life quality is sometimes the most important thing... We appreciate his contribution and experience, an we also know that "a good son always returns home ..."
He identifies with an Excellence service, "because we always try to satisfy the most of our clients by meeting their expectations." Innovation and creativity: "In Columbus we have the freedom to create new cocktails every day and innovate the service". Enhance the fact that in Columbus you can use a variety of ingredients that could hardly find any other bar of the country. He also recognizes that work in Columbus gives you national visibility and a high level as a Bartender.
Nuno adds that the work environment is fantastic, "which means that whenever you come to work it feels good to do so." Although he might be on mixologist zone, his favorite drink since many years is a good Irish on the rocks. Why?! "I have a simple tastes!"
JOÃO RODRIGUES - “THE WATCHER”
It came from Portimão to study in Faro, and it was during this period that he began to work in Columbus to make some money. Its been a while since he´s finished the course, and successfully and proudly continues to do his job as "Head Bartender". He identify the most with the family environment present on his work, companionship and complicity that exists among the Columbus team.
See his colleagues as a second family and the Bar as a second home. The favorite moment in Columbus, it´s a 5 seconds team break, "imagine a Saturday night, 1 A.M., when we are in a "rush hour", full service, and the whole team stops to drink a shot ..."
"Those 5 seconds are essential, raise the morale of the crew" explains, "relax us, take away the stress accumulated until then, it demonstrates companionship and "recharge the batteries, brings us some complicity to continue to smile because that's how we like to serve!"
In the future he hope for the best, to stay in the same way that it is now, to have the conditions to improve every day in order to achieve the coveted award for Best Bar Portugal and get international recognition.
HUGO BERNARDO - “the passionate”
From the country's central region, Alcobaça, comes this last hour hiring that it only knew "fill cups" here and there. University student and alone in the Algarve, confident but humble style, quickly identified with the team. Identifies with all Columbus moments, from the irreverence of the Menu to the classical architecture and welcoming space. Learn fast and naturally developed a special taste for this business, appreciate the family atmosphere to the simplistic complexity of their cocktails which today have been awarded at the highest national level bar competition - Portugal Worldclass Competition.
"I like cocktails have the capacity to transport me to other places, at different times" the Old Fashioned and Negroni are my choices that I identify the most. He dreams and works to the see Columbus arrive as quickly as possible to the 50 best bars in the world. That's his desire!
PEDRO BENTES - “THE RESISTANT”
The kid who breaks all the barriers, always with a natural smile and an enviable education. It has an enormous willpower, virgin and very dedicated heart. It is the latest element of the bar team, but it seems that was already learned. "I identify with the team, with the atmosphere among my colleagues and clients." He likes Columbus, because he feels that is in front of a family that advises and pulling for him, not only with colleagues but also does some regular customers.
His favorite cocktail is the New Fashioned, and his favorite moment is when you are working and "the client call me by name and treat me with kind words thanking me for the service, because I feel I performed my job the best way possible."
Expects the Columbus in the future is recognized by the good service that increasingly have been doing because "we have done a great job and this recognition is well-deserved."
STEPHAN FISCHER - “THE GEEK”
The demure, modest and even solitary guy, from controversial origins, has it´s own way to be in life, little talker and retracted, has always anecdotes at his fingertips, is recognized as easy to achieve and quite hard worker always willing to help.
Son of immigrants, born in Switzerland, arrived here very young, virtually without the opportunity to meet his father. "Columbus is my family, the only one, I have not met any other ..." says head up looking in eyes, "here I feel I have friends I can trust, they tell me things as they are."
Finally, it is with pride that we treat as the Chief of Cups, gradually taking care of his well being and never forgetting the good person he is with huge a future ahead.
ANA SOBRAL - “THE LITTLE GIRL”
Our Alentejo woman and the only one, have the responsibility to "be in charge of the boys," playful girl, she likes a good little party, however very responsible and dedicated.
is identified mainly with the existing family atmosphere among the staff. "More than colleagues, we are friends, family," explains convinced. "This has been one of the successful grounds of this home and family."
Develops its work during day hours and she’s favourite cocktail is the Cosmopolitan, symbolizing the moment of relaxation and conviviality, where you can enjoy your time in this space, imagining the customer's perspective.
"What she expect to the future of Columbus is that its evolution will continue, and will always continue to want more and better services for our customers and friends who visit us"
ANDRÉ VENTURA - “THE SERIOUS ONE”
In the first year of Columbus, a Vila Real Sto. Antonio boy, on a normal academic fair thursday like so many others, at night appears with a serious look in the middle of his University colleagues group course of Hotel Management and says: "When you want i come to work for you," what he did not expect that it was so fast ... Virtually he started this project from the beginning and continues uninterrupted to the present day now with its role as "Manager".
He is proud to work in a bar that stands out for its quality service, drinks and products. Choose himself the products he buy, friend of a friend and it is among these that feels good and enjoy being. He´s simple and practical character is reflected in their choice of drinks, good wine, brandy or rum, or even "maybe the Cuba Libre" occupy the number one in its cocktail list. The Ventura´s Columbus Moment is when it ends another night and feel that his mission was accomplished, and have the opportunity to take a few minutes to relax in their own way...
FILIPE PAGARIM - “THE INCENDIARY”
He is a cheerful and fun slyer at the Alentejo style where are their origins. Always in good mood, very quiet with a unique rhythm, easy smile and always with a joke ready to tell. He´s proud to work with friends "everyone knows that there is no staff Columbus, yes there is" Columbus family. "
He says it currently has 2 favourite cocktails ... "over the years and the maturity that we acquire unconsciously we altering our palate and our tastes. " He´s forte is not to create cocktails, Filipe himself says "I am fully aware that I was not born to create cocktails, but I make the cocktails they teach me in training."
No doubt that has other qualities that are essential the operation, he´s is a worker who has no afraid to work! (or to party, whenever it might be...) But since he´s in the bar comes out to make all sorts of tasks, during the afternoon. "I think that goal and focus is to always be in order to improve, maintain the good atmosphere between the staff and clients.
